This year, the Emmett Till Interpretive Center (ETIC) is reflecting on the 70th anniversary of the murder of 14-year-old Emmett Till and its impact on Mississippi, the South, and the nation. This ongoing year-long reflection, with events that culminated in the Mississippi Delta last month, is intended to educate audiences about one of the most tragic yet triumphant stories in American history. This program has been designed to introduce or further expose young people in particular to the Till narrative in such a way that the experience enlightens them and empowers them to delve deeper into how the Mississippi civil rights movement shaped the national movement and how local histories have the power to have national impact.
The traveling panel, "Remembering Emmett," consists of ETIC presenters and civil rights veterans and/or community members – known as the “Emmett Till Generation” – who will explore the impact of Till’s murder on the civil rights movement, the silence that overcame a community in the years that followed the trial, and why what occurred in 1955 still resonates in 2025.
