Anna McGuire

Bio

My first experience with basket weaving came at an early age. My mother was a Master Basket Weaver from Navajo and Mayan descent. Her English name, was Audrey, given to her in honor of her native name and translates to “noble strength”.

It was at this young age that I was struck with the healing nature of her basket weaving and the serenity and beauty it instilled. The connection to our ancestors woven carefully into each piece. Sitting at her side as she created her baskets I heard many tales of our culture and wisdom, as well as the struggles and hardships she faced as a woman in her time. Every one of her baskets showed the strength and perseverance of our people.

I have taken it upon myself to continue the art of basket weaving traditions and have found it to not only be my passion but a deep connection with my culture. All of my baskets and art work reflect nature, spirituality, and connection to culture in the truest sense. Pine needles, sweet grass, Sinu, cloth, woven threads, traditional beadwork, and whatever else nature provides for inspiration.

My baskets can be found in galleries all across the west, in Alaska and California and I have shipped my pieces to many people around the world. Every piece of one of a kind, please enjoy.
